The Perfect Nails
How to do your nails at home and keep them healthy!
So we all have that one person in our lives that has the most beautiful, strongest and healthiest nails, they can pretty much do anything to them and they look amazing. For me this is my sister in law Jot, I caught up with her to share her step by step tutorial and products that she swears by… her nails are proof that she has a winning formula and some great healthy nail tips!
Step 1: Remove nail vanish by pouring nail varnish remover on a pad and hold on each nail for 20 seconds. I tend to use an acetone free version to avoid using harsh chemicals where possible.
Step 2: Shape the nails to form a rectangular shape.
Top tip: Shape from the edge of nail in a straight angle and repeat the same on the tip – definitely worth a watch of the tutorial to get better understanding!
Step 3: Wash, dry and then moisturise your hands. My favourite cream for soft delicious smelling skin is the Body Shop Warm Vanilla hand cream (I can’t get enough of this product)
Step 4: Right, now your hands are prepped and ready for a base nail varnish coat on each nail – this is an important step as the base will keep the colour on for longer. After years of trying and testing, Rimmel London is my go to nail base.
Step 5: Paint your nails with whatever colour you prefer (I used L’Oréal 330 smell the roses). Painting each nail doesn’t have to be neat and perfect, I give it a few hours for the paint to fully dry, then wash my hands with hot water to peel off any messy varnish that may have transferred over to my skin.
Top tip: You can dry your nails by putting your hand in a bowl of iced water for 30 minutes!
Step 5: Apply the clear top coat for strengthened and polished looking nails – for this I highly recommend the Nail Nurse top coat which keeps them beautifully shiny for at least a week
Step 6: Finally apply cuticle oil – I have tried so many over the years and I couldn’t recommend Sally Hansen Vitamin E Nail and Cuticle Oil enough. This is what keeps my nails strong healthy and long.
Top tip: Don’t skip this step! If you keep applying this oil every time you paint your nails, they will get stronger and stay healthy!
Right! Time to get manicuring…..
